Understanding a 960 PSAT Score

Hey y'all, I recently got a 960 on my PSAT and am not sure what to make of it. Is this a decent score? What kind of SAT score does this predict? Also, should I begin studying more intensively for the actual SAT?

Sure, happy to provide some insight into your PSAT score. A 960 is around the 50th percentile, meaning that about half of test-takers scored lower and half scored higher. So, it's an average score.

To predict what you might score on the SAT, note that the conversion is not 1-to-1 though it's close. For example, an 1150 on the PSAT is around an 1180 on the SAT. So, a 960 on the PSAT might equate to around 990 -1010 on the SAT. Keep in mind that this is not an exact science, and performance can fluctuate based on a variety of factors.

As for studying more intensively, it would be a beneficial idea especially if you have college aspirations where higher SAT scores are preferred. Students typically start their serious SAT prep after their PSAT. This could involve following a study plan, buying study guides, using online resources, or even hiring a tutor if it fits in your budget. Also, be sure to make use of the College Board's partnership with Khan Academy, where you can get free personalized practice based on your PSAT results.

Remember, the aim should be to demonstrate academic growth and potential to colleges and a steady upward trend is certainly beneficial. Happy studying!
