Questions about ACT Standby

Hey y'all, I was late in registering for the ACT and had to opt for the standby option. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I prepare myself for any unexpected scenario? Really hoping for some concrete answers, feeling a little stressed about it. Thanks!

Responding as a high school counselor:

Hello! No need to stress, I can certainly give you some insight into the ACT Standby process. While it's never guaranteed, many students who sign up as standby testers do end up being accommodated on test day.

One key thing to expect is that you may not be able to take your test at your preferred location. The ACT tries to place all standby testers, but accommodating everyone at their first-choice test location isn't always possible.

Arriving early on test day is vital. Test centers admit stand-by testers on a first-come, first-served basis, after all registered test-takers have been admitted. It's usually suggested that you arrive at the test center no later than 7:45 AM.

Make sure you have your standby ticket printed and with you on test day, along with an acceptable form of identification. Without this, you will not be allowed to test.

Lastly, you should prepare as you would for a regular ACT test. Remember, you're not at any disadvantage in terms of the ACT score because you're going as a standby. The only part that's a bit more uncertain is the availability of a seat in the test center, which is why it's a good reason to arrive early.

Keep a positive attitude and keep studying. Best of luck on your ACT!
