Understanding AP Class Grading Scale Percentages

Hi everyone! I'm having a little trouble understanding how the AP class grading scale works. Does anyone know what percentage you need to get a 5 on most AP exams? Also, I've heard that some schools also adjust GPA based on these grades, is that true?

AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. However, it's important to note that each exam's scoring scale differs somewhat, because they're scaled to adjust for the difficulty of each test. While it's hard to pinpoint an exact percentage you need to achieve a 5, it's generally noted that a student would need to get over approximately 70% of the exam correct to score a 5 on most AP tests.

When it comes to GPAs, many high schools do adjust GPA based on AP classes—this is often referred to as "weighting" GPAs. A weighted GPA takes into account the difficulty level of the classes you've taken, giving a numerical bonus for harder classes such as APs. For example, in a weighted GPA model, an A in an AP class might be counted as a 5.0 instead of the standard 4.0 for an A.
