What are the Physical Requirements to Join the Military?

Hey, I'm seriously thinking about a military career after high school. But I'm wondering - besides being in good shape, what kind of physical requirements are there for entering the military? Are there specific fitness tests that have to be passed? Any info would be super helpful!

Each branch of the military - Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard - has its own set of physical requirements and preparatory fitness tests that you need to be mindful of. These requirements and tests ensure that individuals possess the essential strength, stamina, and endurance to perform their military duties effectively.

For example, the Army uses an Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) which includes exercises like a maximum deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release push-ups, a sprint-drag-carry, leg tucks, and a two-mile run.

The Marines, on the other hand, administer a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) which involves pull-ups or push-ups, crunches or planks, and a timed three-mile run.

The Air Force Physical Fitness Test consists of sit-ups, push-ups, and a one-and-a-half-mile run, all designed to measure your anaerobic capacities.

For the Navy, it's a Physical Screening Test that includes swimming, push-ups, sit-ups, and running.

The Coast Guard requires completion of a Physical Fitness Assessment involving push-ups, sit-ups, and a timed run, similar to the Air Force's model.

Before you decide to join any branch of the military, it's important to research the specific physical requirements of that branch. It would also be beneficial to start training in advance to ensure you can meet - and preferably exceed - these requirements. Consider incorporating a mix of cardio exercises, strength training, and stretching into your routine to be well-prepared for the tests.
