Just had a thought, and now I can't get it out of my head. Say I don't do as well as I hope on an AP exam, is it possible to just retake the exam the next year without having to sit through the class again? I feel like I’d be better off self-studying if I have to retake. Does anyone have experience with this, or know if it’s even allowed?
Absolutely, you can retake an AP exam without retaking the class. It's not uncommon for students to opt for self-study if they're aiming for a better score. AP exams are administered once a year in May, so you'd need to wait until the next testing cycle. Keep in mind that self-studying requires a good deal of discipline and a solid study plan. Make sure to review the College Board's official resources, as they provide course outlines, practice questions, and previous exam questions. Just register for the exam as you did the first time through the AP coordinator at your school or another local school. And remember, colleges often look at the highest score you’ve achieved on an AP exam, so a better score could certainly be worth your effort!
