Can someone shed some light on cancelling SAT scores?

This has got me a little stressed out, I just took the SAT and didn't feel so good about it. If my score turns out to be really bad, can I opt to cancel it so colleges won't see it? How does this whole process work? Thanks for your help!

You're absolutely correct that you have the option to cancel your SAT scores if you feel you didn't perform to your potential. However, you should make this decision carefully because once scores are cancelled, they cannot be retrieved or reinstated.

The request to cancel SAT scores must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the fourth day after your test date, and you need to make this request by fax or overnight mail, unfortunately, you cannot cancel scores by phone or email.

Before you decide to cancel, remember that many colleges view multiple SAT test attempts positively, viewing it as a demonstration of your perseverance and commitment to improving your academic profile. Additionally, as part of their overall admissions considerations, a number of colleges consider your super-score, which is the highest possible composite score from multiple SAT test attempts. So, in other words, a lower score on one test attempt will not necessarily negatively impact your super-score.

Before making any decision, it might be worthwhile to reflect on why you feel this particular test didn't go well. Sometimes, test-takers underestimate their performance or overemphasize small errors they remember making. Perhaps consider talking through your feelings with someone who understands the process, perhaps a guidance counselor, teacher, or mentor, as this might provide you with some clarity.
