Help on how to use the CSU GPA Calculator?

I'm trying to figure out my prospects for getting into a CSU school, but I'm kinda stuck on how to use the CSU GPA calculator. Can anyone give me a run-through of how to use it?

Sure, I'd be happy to help walk you through how to use the CSU GPA calculator!

First off, keep in mind that the CSU GPA is calculated based on grades earned in all approved "a-g" courses taken in grades 10 and 11, including summer session immediately following 9th grade and immediately before 12th grade. Here are the steps to calculate your CSU GPA:

1. Start by listing all your high school classes that fall under “a-g” subjects from 10th and 11th grades. These subjects include history, English, math, lab science, a language other than English, visual and performing arts, and a college preparatory elective.

2. Assign each class a point value according to the grade you received. As per CSU's point system, an A is worth 4 points, a B is 3 points, a C is 2 points, a D is 1 point, and an F is 0 points.

3. If you took any Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or college courses, these are given an extra point as long as you scored at least a C. So an A would be 5 points, a B would be 4 points, and a C would be 3 points. However, please remember that the extra point is capped at a maximum of 8 semesters for CSU calculations.

4. Once you have assigned points to your courses, sum up all the points.

5. Then, divide the total sum by the number of semesters to generate your GPA.

That's it! You should now have your CSU GPA. Remember that a minimum CSU GPA for California residents is a 2.5, and for out-of-state residents it's a 3.0. However, the more competitive CSU campuses and programs might have higher GPA requirements.
