Lehigh U versus Colgate—Thoughts?

Having trouble deciding between Lehigh and Colgate for my college choice. Anyone have insight into their academics and campus life?

Both Lehigh and Colgate are excellent institutions, and you can't go wrong with either. Your final choice may come down to your personal preferences, academic interests, and the type of environment you envision yourself thriving in.

Academically, each school has its strengths. Colgate is a highly regarded liberal arts college known for rigorous academic standards and small, seminar-style classes. Students often praise the school's dedicated faculty and intimate learning environment. Lehigh University, on the other hand, is known for its strong engineering and business programs (especially the Integrated Business and Engineering program), alongside strong programs in the liberal arts.

Both schools have beautiful campuses. Lehigh is based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and offers both a bustling city environment and outdoor experiences. Colgate, located in Hamilton, NY, provides a more rural setting with scenic views. Students often enjoy the outdoors, thanks to the beautiful natural environment surrounding the campus.

In terms of campus life, both universities have active student bodies with lots of opportunities for involvement. Greek life is prominent at both schools, with roughly a third of students at Lehigh and about half at Colgate participating in Greek organizations. However, there are plenty of other activities for students not interested in the Greek scene, including clubs, sports, and community service opportunities.

It's also worth looking at your career goals. Lehigh's location offers proximity to larger East Coast cities like Philadelphia and New York and has strong outcomes for post-grad employment. Colgate also has strong alumni connections and career services, and its liberal arts focus often leads to a wide range of career outcomes.

Remember, it's essential to visit both campuses if possible. Getting a feel for the school's culture, speaking to current students, attending a few classes, and staying overnight can give you an insight into the community and help you make a decision.

In the end, the choice between Lehigh and Colgate can come down to personal fit. You'll want to consider where you felt more at home and the type of environment in which you see yourself thriving academically and socially.
