Joining the military with a GED, is it possible?

What if I get my GED instead of finishing high school? Would that still be acceptable for the military? I could use some expert advice.

Absolutely, it's possible to join the military with a GED. However, it's important to know that each branch of the military has specific educational requirements and enlistment qualifications. The U.S. Armed Forces usually consider applicants with a GED as 'Tier 2' candidates, while high school graduates are 'Tier 1'.

This distinction matters because each branch of the military has caps on the number of Tier 2 individuals that they will accept in a given year. For example, the Army can accept up to 10% Tier 2 applicants, while the Navy, Air Force, and Marines accept a much smaller percentage.

To increase your chances of enlistment, a higher score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) can make a difference. It is an exam that tests your knowledge in areas such as arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and mathematics knowledge.

Just remember that although possessing a High School Diploma is preferred, having a GED does not disqualify you from serving. Being committed to your purpose and working hard towards it can help overcome a multitude of challenges.
