What kind of tests would I need to take to get into the military?

I could use some help understanding what tests I might have to take if I were to apply to the military. It's an option I'm considering post-high school.

The main test you will need to take if you're considering enlisting in the U.S. military is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The ASVAB is a multiple-choice test administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command and used to determine qualification for enlistment in the armed forces. It measures your aptitude in different areas such as knowledge of science, mechanics, mathematics, understanding of verbal and written information, among other things.

Your scores in these tests will help the military determine your eligibility for enlistment and place you in a job or military occupation specialty (MOS) that leverages your strengths.

Most military branches require a minimum ASVAB score to enlist:

- Army: 30

- Navy: 35 (or 26 with waiver)

- Air Force: 31

- Coast Guard: 36 (or 32 with waiver)

- Marine: 32

Remember though, the higher you score on the ASVAB, the more career options you have available to you in the military. You should also keep in mind that these scores can vary, and it's always a good idea to check with the specific branch for up-to-date information.

Another test you may encounter is the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) which is a part of the ASVAB. This particular exam determines whether you have the mental aptitude to enlist in the U.S. military and covers four areas: arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and mathematics knowledge.

Physical fitness tests are also a part of the military entry process, and the standards can differ from one branch to another.

Lastly, it's important to remember that each military branch has different criteria for eligibility besides test scores. These can be based on age, education, physical health, and character (citizenship, criminal record).
