What are the Requirements for the Naval Academy?

I've been considering the Naval Academy and I'm really interested, but I'm not quite sure what the requirements are for an application. Does anyone know specifically what academic and physical standards they're looking for?

To pursue your interest in the Naval Academy, there are certain eligibility criteria you need to be aware of. It's key to understand that getting into any federal service academy, including the US Naval Academy, is not just about grades and test scores - physical fitness, character, and leadership are equally important.

To meet eligibility:

- You must be at least 17 years of age and not past your 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year you would enter the Naval Academy.

- You should be a United States citizen. Foreign nationals are admitted under certain conditions.

- You need to be unmarried with no dependents.

Academics-wise:

- You should excel in math and sciences as the Academy programs are technically oriented.

- The minimum SAT and/or ACT scores are not explicitly mentioned, but the Naval Academy admits students with strong scores.

Your Physical Aptitude Examination:

- As part of the application process, Naval Academy requires applicants to pass a Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA, including a basketball throw, pull-ups/flexed-arm hang, shuttle run, crunches, push-ups, and a 1-mile run.

- You also need to meet specific medical qualifications for Naval Service.

Extracurricular Activities:

- Your extracurricular activities should demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and other relevant qualities.

In addition, all candidates must receive a nomination, generally from a U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, or the Vice President.

Please remember that the Academy provides an education and training ground for future leaders, so they are looking for students who show evidence of leadership, robust moral character, and physical aptitude. Competition is tough, so explore ways to make your application stand out—like involving in meaningful extracurricular activities, attending a summer STEM Program at the Academy, or joining the Boy/Girl Scouts.
