Out-of-state tuition for University of Hawaii

Hey there, I'm considering the University of Hawaii but kinda worried about the out-of-state tuition. Is it significantly more than in-state? And if anyone has any tips for making it more affordable, that'd be super helpful.

Yes, like many schools, the University of Hawaii charges a higher tuition rate for out-of-state students compared to in-state students.

As for making your education more affordable, one of the best measures you can take is to apply for as many scholarships as possible. These can come from the university itself or from external providers.

The University of Hawaii offers numerous scholarships, so be sure to check out their Financial Aid Office's website and make sure you meet all the necessary deadlines.

Also, you can apply for FAFSA for federal aid. They now use something called the Student Aid Index (SAI) to determine eligibility for financial aid. A high SAI can qualify you for certain grants or work-study programs, which can help offset the cost of tuition.

Lastly, see if you qualify for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program if you're from a WICHE state (Western states, including AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY). This program allows students from western states to attend out-of-state schools in the area at a reduced tuition rate.

This all being said, the best way to get an accurate estimate of what you would actually pay is to use the Net Price Calculator on the University of Hawaii's website. This tool takes into account your family's financial situation and the school's aid policies to provide an estimated cost of attendance. It's much more accurate than sticker price or average net price.
