How to calculate my GPA for University of Utah?

I'm applying to several schools, including University of Utah. I'm wondering how I can calculate my GPA according to their guidelines? Any advice?

I'd be more than happy to help you understand how to calculate your GPA for the University of Utah. The first thing to know is that the University of Utah, as with many other institutions, uses a 4.0 scale for GPAs.

Here's the general process:

Each letter grade you receive has a numeric value on this 4.0 scale. As a rule of thumb, an A is a 4.0, an A- is a 3.7, a B+ is a 3.3, a B is a 3.0, a B- is a 2.7, a C+ is a 2.3, a C is a 2.0, a C- is a 1.7, a D+ is a 1.3, a D is a 1.0, a D- is a 0.7, and an F is a 0.0.

Step 1: Convert each grade you have into its numeric equivalent using the scale I provided above.

Step 2: Multiply the point value of the grade by the number of credit hours for that class. Do this for each class.

Step 3: Add up all these products. This gives you the total "quality points."

Step 4: Add up all the credit hours.

Step 5: Divide the total quality points by the total credit hours. This is your GPA.

Also, know that the University of Utah will not include grades from physical education classes, developmental/remedial courses, or career and technical courses in your GPA calculation.

Ultimately, remember that your GPA is only one aspect of your application. Universities consider other factors too, such as your test scores, extracurricular activities, personal essays, and letters of recommendation. Make sure to focus on those areas as well! Good luck with your application to the University of Utah!
