Military Tests for High School Students

Hey everyone, I'm a junior and I've been interested in joining the military for a while. I heard there are some tests to take while still in high school that could better prepare me for this path. Could anyone elaborate on this, or know where I can find info on these tests?

Absolutely, there are a few tests designed specifically for high school students interested in a military career path.

One such exam is the ASVAB, or the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. This test is used not just to determine your enlistment eligibility, but also to understand the best placement for you within the military, based on your skills and interests. Each of the branches of military (Army, Navy, Air Force, etc.) uses this test to some degree in their recruiting process.

The ASVAB includes sections like General Science, Automotive and Shop Information, Electronics Information, Mathematics Knowledge, and others. It is beneficial in identifying your strong academic areas and potential career fields in the military.

There's also the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) which is a test for students applying to the naval, military, and air force academies. The CFA measures physical aptitude with exercises like basketball throw, pull-ups or the flexed arm hang, shuttle run, modified sit-ups, push-ups, and a one-mile run.

Your school may offer opportunities to take the ASVAB, so I'd recommend asking your guidance counselor about when and where you can take it. The ASVAB is typically offered in the spring, but exact dates can vary. You can find study guides and additional information online to help you prepare.

For the Candidate Fitness Assessment, this is usually arranged once you've started the application process with one of the service academies.

I hope this helps! Going into the military is a big decision, but it can also be a very rewarding path. Best of luck to you!
