Does the military accept online high school diplomas?

Hey everyone. I'm currently enrolled in an online high school and I'm considering enlisting in the military after graduation. Does anyone know if the military accepts online high school diplomas, or do they prefer traditional diplomas?

Yes, the military does accept online high school diplomas, as long as the online school is accredited. However, you may find your path more challenging, as most recruits with diplomas from online high schools are considered to be Tier 2, rather than Tier 1 like those with diplomas from in-person schools. The military prioritizes Tier 1 recruits, and generally takes only a limited number from Tier 2.

Given the physical demands of the military, they will also take into account your fitness levels, medical history, criminal record, and scores on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, which is the standard military entrance exam. For people who fall into Tier 2, there can be stricter standards in these other areas. For example, you may need to have a higher ASVAB score.

Additionally, the culture shock after enlisting can be more extreme for students coming from online high schools. Online school usually allows for flexibility and autonomy, whereas life in the military is organized around a strict structure. So, be prepared for that significant change.

Do remember to check with your local recruiter or the specific branch's website for the most current information, as requirements and conditions can change. But generally speaking, while enlisting with an online high school diploma presents challenges, it's not impossible. Good luck with your future endeavors!
