Considering Military High Schools in Colorado

Hey folks, I've been thinking a lot about my next step after middle school and am considering some military high schools located in Colorado. Does anyone have any firsthand experience or know someone who studied there? Would really appreciate any insights into the curriculum, campus life, and opportunities.

It's a big decision to attend a military high school, and you're taking a great first step by researching and asking questions!

Military schools, such as those located in Colorado, are known for their structured environment and emphasis on leadership and discipline. Students usually wear uniforms and are expected to uphold the honor code. This can be a great opportunity to develop a strong character, self-discipline, and leadership abilities.

As for curriculum, it mirrors what you would find at any well-equipped high school, with mathematics, science, English, and social studies. But the military aspect is integrated into the school life, often with courses on military history and leadership, drills, and physical training. Most military high schools also offer the opportunity to participate in sports and various extracurricular activities.

Regarding campus life, it's usually regimented with strict schedules for classes, meals, and training. Fellow students can provide strong camaraderie and create bonds that can last beyond high school years. However, it's worth noting that the disciplined and regimented lifestyle isn't for everyone. It requires a certain level of commitment to the lifestyle and willingness to follow structured routines.

Opportunities post-graduation are ample. If a student is interested, there's often a clear path towards military colleges, though attending a military high school doesn't commit you to a career in the military. These schools are just as focused on preparing students for college and civilian life as they are at preparing them for a military career. So even if you decide not to pursue a military career, the solid academic foundation, leadership experiences, and character development can open doors to a variety of careers and universities.

To get a more personal perspective, try to find alumni of the specific school you're interested in and ask them about their experiences. They will be able to provide insights that may not be available on the school's website or through their admission's office. Connecting with current students can also provide a real-time insight into the experience there.

And remember, as with any decision pertaining to your academic future, weigh all the pros and cons to make a decision that aligns with your personal and academic goals.
