Joining any branch of military without a high school diploma?

Hey everyone, I'm in high school right now and was exploring the possibility of joining the military. But I was curious if it was possible to enlist without a high school diploma or if the diploma is a strict requirement for every branch?

While having a high school diploma is generally preferred by all branches of the U.S. military, not having one doesn't necessarily disqualify you from enlisting. Different branches of the U.S. Armed Services have varying policies regarding enlistment qualifications, so it's best to contact a recruiter for the most accurate information. Here's a general idea though:

1. Army: The Army does accept enlistees with GEDs, but they prefer those with high school diplomas. GED holders must score higher on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) than diploma holders.

2. Navy: The Navy also accepts enlistees with GEDs instead of high school diplomas, but, similarly to the Army, there might be extra requirements. Enlistees with GEDs might need to score higher on the ASVAB test as well.

3. Air Force: The Air Force is more restrictive than the Army and Navy. They limit the number of GED-holders who can enlist each year, so they really prefer a high school diploma.

4. Marines: Like the Air Force, the Marines also prefer high school diplomas over GEDs and limit the number of GED-holders who can enlist each year.

5. Coast Guard: The Coast Guard requires a high school diploma or, in some instances, an equivalent such as a GED. The number of GED-holders who can enlist each year is also limited.

Remember, these general guidelines might change, so it's best to contact a recruiter or the specific branch to get the most current information. Also, consider the benefits of obtaining a high school diploma, or even potentially a college degree, as these may provide further opportunities within the military including officer programs.
