How Can I Calculate My GPA for UNH?

Hey everyone, I'm currently in my junior year and UNH is one of my prospective colleges. I'd like to know how they calculate the GPA. Does UNH use weighted or unweighted GPA? Are APs considered more favorably, etc? I'd keen on understanding the GPA calculation system at UNH. Thanks!

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) typically looks at your cumulative weighted GPA when reviewing your application. They take into account the rigor of your courses, hence AP classes can weigh in your favor when calculating your GPA.

To calculate your GPA in a way that UNH might, follow the general steps below, while keeping in mind that different high schools may use different scales:

1. Assign each grade a point value - typically, A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. If it's a + or -, you might add or subtract 0.3 points accordingly (e.g., B+ would be 3.3, B would be 3.0, and B- would be 2.7). This varies by scale too, some schools count an A+ as 4.3.

2. For each of your classes, multiply the point value of the grade by the number of credits the class was worth. For instance, if you got an A in a 3-credit class, you'd get 12 points.

3. Add up all the points you've calculated this way, and divide by the total number of credits taken. This will give you the GPA.

However, be aware that all colleges, UNH included, have their own unique methods for recalculating your GPA based on your transcripts, and these methods are not generally made public. So, while this method can provide an estimate, the exact number might be slightly different.

Keep in mind, while GPA is an important factor, UNH, like many universities, takes a holistic approach to admissions. They also consider your personal essay, recommendations, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of your application.
