Online High School Diplomas and Military Enrollment

Hi there folks! I'm currently studying in an online high school, due to some unfortunate circumstances. How does the military view online high school diplomas when considering enrollment? Do they accept it, or would it hinder my chances of joining?

The military does recognize online high school diplomas, but they generally prefer graduates from traditional high schools. Those with diplomas from brick-and-mortar schools are usually categorized as Tier 1, while those with GEDs, online diplomas, or other credentials in place of a traditional diploma fall into Tier 2, and the military can have limits on the number of Tier 2 enlistees they take.

One key factor is the accreditation of your online high school. An accredited online high school diploma may not be seen as on par with a traditional high school diploma, but accreditation gives recruiters confidence that you received a high quality education from your online institution. Non-accredited online schools might not be recognized by the military at all.

In any case, every branch of the military has different requirements, and they adjust their recruiting priorities based on their current needs. Speaking with a recruiter about your situation might give you more specific information about the current recruitment criteria. They could offer advice on your situation tailored to the branch you aim to join and the particular high school you've attended, to clear up any confusion you have about your eligibility.

Overall, it's not impossible to join the military with an online diploma, but it could be harder. Best of luck!
