San Diego State Out-of-State Tuition Details?

Hey all, I'm from Nevada and I've been eyeing San Diego State for a while now. Anyone know about the out-of-state tuition situation over there? Like is it higher or are there any opportunities to decrease that price tag?

San Diego State University (SDSU), like many public universities, does have higher tuition rates for out-of-state students compared to in-state students. For the 2024-2025 academic year, out-of-state students at SDSU must pay $8,728 in basic tuition and fees, and an additional non-resident fee of about $12,600, this totals up to $21,328 for just the tuition.

As an out-of-state student, there are a couple of ways you can potentially offset this additional cost:

1. Scholarships: You can look for scholarships both within SDSU and outside of SDSU that you might be eligible for. The SDSU Scholarship Search tool is a great starting place for identifying scholarship opportunities offered by the university.

2. Residency: Gaining California residency can significantly reduce your tuition. But, do note that California has strict rules about gaining residency for tuition purposes, and typically requires living in California for at least a year under certain conditions before you are considered a resident.

Remember to also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you are eligible for any federal grants or loans. Each of these options would work towards cutting down the out-of-state fee you'd have to cover.
