AP exams: Paper or computer, which one is it?

Hey all, Junior here a bit confused about the format of AP exams. Are they done on paper or computers? Has anyone here taken AP exams recently that can share what it was like? I'm worried because my typing speed isn't the greatest, and if it's on a computer, I need to start practicing.

Hey there! I'm glad you're thinking ahead about your AP exams. The traditional method for AP exams is the paper and pencil format. However, in recent years, some computer-based options were introduced due to circumstances like the pandemic. Some subjects, such as foreign languages, may also require the use of computers to record spoken portions. Overall, computer-based options vary yearly, so it's essential to check with your school's AP coordinator for the most current information regarding the format of your specific AP tests.

Generally, the College Board provides details about exam formats well before the exam dates, so you'll have time to prepare. But for now, don't stress too much about your typing speed, as the vast majority of exams are still handwritten, especially the essay portions. Good luck with your studies!
