Are there any reputable Military High Schools in Louisiana?

Hey y'all, it's junior year and I'm considering the path of attending a military high school instead of a traditional one. Does anyone know about good military high schools in Louisiana? I'm curious about admission requirements, class size, and academic offerings. Grateful for any insight!

Absolutely, there are a couple of military high schools in Louisiana that have reputable track records. One is the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA) and the other is the Louisiana Military Academy (LMA).

LSMSA is a public, residential high school located in Natchitoches that provides a top-notch academic environment, often stimulating and challenging. They are very competitive with admission and usually require prospective students to have at least a 3.5 GPA. Class sizes at LSMSA are relatively small, usually less than 25 students, allowing for personalized attention. In terms of academic offerings, this school excels in providing extensive AP classes and college preparatory courses, preparing students for future academic success.

The Louisiana Military Academy, also known as Fork Polk, is located in Leesville. This school is not as academically-focused as LSMSA, but it offers a rigorous military training program and a structured academic curriculum. It requires applicants to pass an entrance exam, along with meeting physical fitness criteria. The class sizes here are also relatively small, which can help provide a more personal and interactive learning experience.

Regarding the academic offerings at LMA, there's a good mix of core classes like math, science, English and social studies, as well as elective options including physical education and leadership development courses important for military training.

However, it's important to remember that military high school is not the only pathway to a career in the military. It can be a great step if you're sure that's the path you want, but you also have the options of attending any high school and then applying to a military academy or participating in a ROTC program in college.

Best of luck as you consider your options!
