Where Exactly is Baylor Located?

Hi all, I'm seriously considering applying to Baylor but I'd love to know more about its location. Could someone describe the surrounding area and what it's like? The campus vibe? Things to do? Would really appreciate some firsthand insights.

Baylor University is located in Waco, Texas, which is positioned halfway between Dallas and Austin. Waco is a medium-sized city with a population of around 140,000. It's a unique blend of the urban and rural with all the conveniences of city life as well as the charm of Texas countryside. Baylor's campus sits on the banks of the Brazos River and is an integral part of the city. Moreover, the university's campus is quite sizable and beautiful, with a lot of green space.

In terms of the campus vibe, many students often describe Baylor as having a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is a private, Christian university and has a close-knit community due to its moderate size (undergraduate enrollment of about 14,108 as of Fall 2022). Students are often engaged in on-campus activities, with numerous clubs, sports, and faith-driven initiatives to participate in.

As for things to do in and around Waco, you won't run out of options. The city is home to several attractions, including the Magnolia Silos (owned by HGTV Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines), the Dr. Pepper Museum (a nod to the drink's local origins), and the Cameron Park Zoo. Cameron Park, one of the largest municipal parks in Texas, is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts with bike trails, a river, and beautiful scenery. Baylor's campus is also within walking distance of downtown Waco, which offers shop, restaurants, and cultural attractions like museums and art galleries. And being centrally localized in Texas means that larger cities like Austin and Dallas are just a short drive away for a weekend trip.

Ultimately, though, everybody experiences college life differently, and while the surrounding area is important, don't forget to take into account the academic programs, community, values, and other particular features that Baylor offers as they'll shape your overall college experience too.
