How is the AP Calc AB exam formatted?

Real talk: I'm preparing for the AP Calc AB exam and could use a breakdown of the structure. What type of questions should I expect and how many of each?

The AP Calculus AB exam is designed to assess your understanding of the concepts and your ability to apply those concepts in various scenarios. The exam consists of two sections: Section I, which includes multiple-choice questions, and Section II, which includes free-response questions.

For Section I, you will face 45 multiple-choice questions, to be answered in 1 hour and 45 minutes. This section is further divided into two parts: Part A, which has 30 questions and allows the use of a calculator, and Part B, which has 15 questions where calculator use is not permitted.

In Section II, you'll have 6 free-response questions to answer over a period of 1 hour and 30 minutes; this is also split into two parts. Part A, with 2 problems allowing calculator use, and Part B, with 4 problems that must be solved without a calculator. Good luck with your preparation!
