MIT has a diverse student body representing different regions, races, and ethnicities from across the world. As an example of this, if we look at the demographic breakdown as of recent data, we can get a sense of how this diversity plays out.
In 2022, about 4.84% of students identified as African American/Black, 10% as Hispanic/Latino, 20.9% as Asian, 25.5% as White, and 5.14% as two or more races. In the 2023 - 2024 academic year, around 11% of students identified as International.
In terms of gender breakdown, the class was almost evenly split, with slightly more men than women. And with regards to geographic spread, in 2023–2024, MIT students come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and 136 foreign countries.
Keep in mind that these figures change slightly with every entering class. But generally, the data suggests that MIT has a fairly diverse student population with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
