George Washington University GPA requirements

Hi all, I'm thinking about applying to George Washington University. I'm a bit stressed out about their GPA requirements though. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 right now. Would this be competitive enough? If anyone could shed light on this, that would be awesome.

Hello! First off, kudos to you for trying your hardest in academics!

Let's talk about George Washington University's GPA requirements. A GPA of 3.6 is certainly competitive for George Washington University, considering the average GPA of enrolled students tends to be around 3.86. However, it's important to remember that university admissions are based on a comprehensive review of not just your GPA, but also your course-load rigor (taking AP/IB classes for instance), extracurricular activities, essays, recommendations, and test scores, among other elements.

In fact, if you have a strong 'spike' - a deep level of achievement in one specific area - that would significantly add to the comprehensiveness of your application. Similarly, if you have taken on leadership roles or engaged in a diversity of extracurricular activities that align with your proposed major or career, this could balance a slight shortfall in GPA.

Your GPA indicates you've worked hard throughout high school, but remember to highlight other aspects of your application. If there are any specific circumstances that had an impact on your GPA, don't hesitate to explain those in your application as well.

Ultimately, it's about showcasing yourself in the best light as a holistic applicant to the best of your capability - and college admissions officers definitely understand that students are more than just a number. Best of luck with your application!
