Getting Econ Classified on the Common App - Help!

Hey guys, so, I'm an economics enthusiast and I've got plenty of ec's related to it. When I'm listing my EC's on the Common App, what category would economics activities typically fall under? Business? Social Sciences? Something else? Don't want to mess up where my passions get shown.

Hello there! It's great to see you're thinking carefully about how to classify your extracurricular activities. When it comes to economics-related EC's, you're right that they could potentially fit into more than one category, and the decision might depend on the nature of each activity.

If your EC's are related to actual business experience, such as running a small business or participating in a business club, then 'Business' would be the appropriate category. However, if your activities are more academic in nature, such as participating in economics competitions, clubs, or research, you would likely want to choose 'Social Sciences' to reflect the academic aspect of your passion for economics. Remember, your choice should reflect the primary focus of your EC.

For example, if you were the president of an Economics Club that organized speaker sessions from industry professionals, conducted a stock market game, or held debates on economic policy, you might lean towards 'Social Sciences' as this indicates a focus on academic engagement with the subject. I hope that helps clarify things, and best of luck with your applications!
