In-state Tuition at Cornell?

Hello, peeps! I'm Stella, a current junior, and seriously considering applying to Cornell. I live in New York, so I'm eager to find out about their in-state tuition. Any information would be super helpful to me!

Hi Stella! Great question. As you may know, Cornell University is a member of the Ivy League, which means it's private and doesn't technically offer in-state tuition rates. However, Cornell is uniquely structured among its Ivy League peers due to its mix of private and statutory colleges.

Cornell has seven privately endowed colleges and four statutory colleges. These statutory colleges are the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, the ILR School, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. They get direct support from the state of New York, which allows them to offer a reduced tuition rate for residents of New York.

For the academic year 2024-2025, the anticipated annual tuition for New York state residents enrolled in Cornell's statutory colleges is about $43,888, while the rate for out-of-state students in the same colleges is around $68,380. The tuition for the privately endowed colleges is also $68,380, regardless of residency. Please keep in mind that these figures are before considering any financial aid, scholarships, or grants.

It's also worth noting that all applications, regardless of the colleges you're applying to, undergo the same rigorous review process, and the unique "contract college" structure doesn't generally make admissions any more or less competitive.

Remember, one of the wonderful things about Cornell and other Ivy League institutions is their commitment to meeting 100% of demonstrated need for all admitted students, which can significantly reduce the sticker price. It's always a good idea to use the financial aid calculators provided by the schools to get a more accurate estimate based on your specific financial circumstances.

Good luck with your journey! Cornell is a vibrant and diverse institution with a lot to offer.
