Florida Atlantic vs Florida Gulf Coast - What's your opinion?

I've been thinking of applying to both Florida Atlantic University and Florida Gulf Coast University. Can anyone provide some insight or direct comparison between these two schools?

Both Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) have their own strengths and distinctive characteristics, and the choice between them largely depends on what you're looking for in a college experience.

Location can be a determining factor. Florida Atlantic University is located in Boca Raton, which is a city that’s part of the Miami metropolitan area. This urban setting might provide more opportunities for internships and jobs. Additionally, if you love the hustle and bustle of a big city, FAU may be the better choice for you. On the other hand, Florida Gulf Coast University is located in Fort Myers, giving it more of a smaller town feel.

As for academics, you may want to consider what you hope to study. Both schools have a variety of majors, but each has areas they are generally more known for. For instance, Florida Atlantic has strong programs in nursing and business, while Florida Gulf Coast is known for programs in sustainability and environmental science due to its close proximity to the Everglades.

If campus life is important to you, consider what types of activities and organizations each school offers. FAU, being a larger school, may offer a wider variety of clubs and organizations. However, FGCU has a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship and community service.

In terms of athletics, both schools compete in Division I sports. FAU is part of Conference USA and has had success in football recently. FGCU, part of the Atlantic Sun Conference, is known for its men's and women's basketball teams.

Lastly, you may want to consider affordability and financial aid opportunities at both schools to ensure your choice aligns with your financial situation. Do keep in mind, the net price of attending can vary significantly depending on things like financial aid, scholarships, and in-state vs. out-of-state tuition. Both schools are known for being relatively affordable, especially for in-state residents.

Remember, every students’ college experience is unique and what's most important is that you find a place where you feel you can thrive.
