PSAT Score Breakdown?

Ok, so I recently took the PSAT and I know that the scores are coming out soon. I keep hearing different things about the scoring. What's the PSAT out of again and how is it broken down by section?

Hi there! Great question about the PSAT scoring – it's definitely something many students wonder about. The total score for the PSAT ranges from 320 to 1520. This is a combination of the scores from two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and Math. Each of these sections is scored on a scale of 160 to 760, which add up to give you your total score.

To break it down further, the EBRW section itself consists of Reading and Writing & Language tests, and the Math section is divided into a calculator and a no-calculator portion. But don't worry, the scores from these subsections are combined to give you a single score for EBRW and a single score for Math. To give you an example, if you score a 500 on EBRW and a 600 on Math, your total PSAT score would be 1100.

Remember, this test is a good practice for the SAT and can give you a sense of where you might want to improve before taking the actual SAT. Scores also matter for juniors who might be in the running for National Merit scholarships. Hope that clarifies things, and best of luck with your results!
