How to Remove a Recommender on Common App?

In a bit of a pickle here... I've had a change of heart about one of my recommenders. Anyone know how to remove a recommender from my Common App after I've already invited them? Will they be notified or is it something I can do discreetly? Need to make sure I handle this situation delicately.

I understand your situation and it's great that you're considering the best approach to handle this. To remove a recommender from your Common App, simply log in to your application, go to the 'Recommenders and FERPA' section, and find the recommender you want to remove. If the recommender has not started their recommendation, there should be an option to 'Exclude Recommender,' which allows you to remove them without notification. However, if the recommender has already begun or submitted their recommendation, you won't be able to remove them through the Common App system. In that case, you'll need to communicate with the recommender directly to explain the situation. It's best to be honest yet respectful in your approach, expressing appreciation for their willingness to help but explaining that you're going in a different direction. Additionally, you should update the colleges you're applying to about the change if it's after the application has been submitted. Lastly, make sure you have another recommender ready to go in the removed person's place to maintain the strength of your application. Best of luck, and if you need to talk through the situation or approach, don't hesitate to seek out further guidance.
