Special Forces in the Military

Hi, I'm kind of curious here. What branches of the military have special forces, and what's the process like to get in?

All five branches of the United States military—Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard—have special forces units, each with unique roles and training procedures. The sixth branch, Space Force, doesn't have a special forces unit as of yet. It's important to note that entry into any of these special forces units is highly competitive and physically and mentally demanding.

1. Army: Their special forces unit is known as the Green Berets. To be considered, you must be an active-duty member of the Army and complete a physical fitness test. If selected you'll receive specialized training.

2. Navy: They have the famous Navy SEALs. To join, one must pass the SEAL Physical Screening Test that measures physical abilities in areas like swimming and running.

3. Marines: They maintain the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC). Entry involves passing the Marine Special Operator Course (MSOC).

4. Air Force: The Air Force's special forces are part of the Special Tactics units. You must pass the Special Tactics Officer (STO) selection process to join.

5. Coast Guard: The Coast Guard’s special forces is the Deployable Specialized Forces (DSF). The prep school is the first step to becoming an operator in the DSF.

These special force units require a rigorous and multistep process starting with physical and psychological screenings. After this screening, selected aspirants move on to basic training, followed by specialty training for their selected force. Advanced skill training follows, including survival and language courses for some branches.

Remember to do a fair amount of research, talk to military personnel, or recruiters to get a deeper understanding of each branch's special forces. Understand that choosing to join the special forces is a major commitment that requires a high level of physical fitness, mental toughness, and dedication.
