Looking for a Smooth Start at Santa Monica College

I just finished my application to Santa Monica College, woohoo! But the nerves of starting out are real. Does anyone know what some of the easiest classes at Santa Monica College might be? I'm hoping to find a gentle way in to college life.

Congrats on your acceptance to Santa Monica College! It's completely natural to feel a bit nervous as you make this big transition, so going in with a plan is a wise move.

It's always difficult to specify "easy" classes, as difficulty can be quite subjective and can depend greatly on a student's strengths, interests, and even the specific professor teaching the course. That said, introductory courses are often designed to be accessible for students who are new to the subject, and are therefore a great starting point.

For instance, you might explore ART 1, Introduction to Art, if you enjoy visual arts, or MATH 20, Introductory Statistics, for a math class. PSYC 1, General Psychology, can provide a great overview of psychology as a field. Literature classes can also be engaging and broadening; perhaps consider ENGL 2, English Composition and Literature.

In addition, while you're searching for classes, consider looking into first-year seminars if Santa Monica College offers them. These classes are typically designed to help first-year students transition into college by exploring interesting topics in a small class environment.

Don't forget to check out online platforms which have reviews of classes and professors by fellow students. This can give you some insight into the course workload and professor's teaching style.

It might also be helpful to meet with an academic advisor so they can work with you closely to create a well-balanced schedule based on your interests and academic goals.

Good luck with your first semester at Santa Monica College!
