Easiest Language to Learn for College Credit

Guys, I've got to fill a mandatory language requirement and I'm starting from scratch – no prior language study. What's the easiest foreign language to learn that will give me college credit? I know it varies from person to person but can use some input.

Depending on your native language and the similarities between it and the foreign language you choose to study, certain languages may appear easier to learn than others. On the whole, for native English speakers, languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, and Norwegian are often tagged as relatively straightforward to learn. These languages share a considerable amount of vocabulary with English and have a simple grammatical structure. Spanish, in particular, is phonetic, meaning words are said as they're written, making it easier to learn how to pronounce and read.

However, it's essential to note that your interest in a language could significantly influence the ease with which you learn it. If you have a genuine interest or connection with a particular culture or its language, it might make the learning process a lot smoother and more enjoyable for you. For example, if you often listen to K-pop, watch anime, or enjoy Italian cuisine, learning Korean, Japanese, or Italian could be more appealing and thus, easier.

Lastly, consider the resources and level of instruction at your college. Some schools have stronger programs or more resources for certain languages. Perhaps there's a highly-rated Spanish instructor, or a robust French club that could enhance your learning experience, making the process less difficult. In the end, choose a language that not only meets your requirement but also suits your interests and the resources available at your college.
