What's the deal with Geometry on the PSAT?

Can anyone tell me how much Geometry I need to know for the PSAT? I’ve heard mixed things about it, like there’s not a lot on the test, but I wanna make sure I’m prepped adequately. Do I need to cover all the concepts or just the basics? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Great question about the PSAT. It's true that Geometry is not the main focus of the math sections, but you'll still see some questions that pull from those concepts. Generally, you should be familiar with the basics like properties of triangles, circles, and simple volume and surface area calculations.

For the PSAT, it's less about memorizing advanced formulas and more about understanding and applying these basic principles. An example could be using the Pythagorean theorem to find the length of a side of a right triangle.

My suggestion would be to make sure you've got a good handle on these foundational topics because even though they may not make up the bulk of the test, they'll still pop up. One strategy could be to review and practice these types of problems so that you're comfortable with them on test day. All the best!
