Joining the Military with DACA Status?

Hey there, a bit of a different question than I usually see around here! I've got DACA status and I've been hearing mixed things. Is there any military branch that would accept me and allow me to serve? Would appreciate any feedback.

The situation for DACA recipients interested in joining the military has been complicated over the last few years. As of now, individuals with DACA status cannot typically enlist in the military. There was a program under the Department of Defense called Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) in the past, which allowed certain noncitizens with skills critical to national security to enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces, and DACA recipients were previously eligible. However, this program was suspended as of 2016 and has not been resumed.

Do note though that policies can and do change, so it might still be valuable to reach out directly to a recruiter from the branch that you're interested in serve, just in case the circumstances or some specific programs have changed again.

In the meantime, there are other ways that DACA recipients can contribute to society and their communities. Many work in fields related to healthcare, education, or social services where they can make a significant impact. Enjoying any form of leadership position or volunteer work within your community could also prove to be worthwhile and impactful.
