Best Military Police Branch: Pros and Cons?

I've always wanted to be in the military police and I'm soon going to graduate high school. I'm wondering, what are the pros and cons of each branch's military police? I'm interested in things like job scope, deployment opportunities, training, etc. Thanks in advance!

I believe it's a terrific decision to pursue a career in the military police. Here's an overview of military police in the four branches - The Army, Air Force, Navy (Master-at-Arms) and Marine Corps.

1. Army Military Police (MP):

Army MPs provide a range of duties from law enforcement to providing force protection. Pros are that MPs receive diverse experience in the law enforcement field, enhancing their prospects for civilian opportunities after service. Cons might include a potentially higher deployment rate.

2. Air Force Security Forces:

The Air Force has its military police sector referred to as Security Forces (SF). SF personnel protect America's Air Force assets and uphold law and order. Pros include specificity in guarding air bases and a chance to get posted overseas. Cons might be lower interaction with community policing compared to others, depending on your posting.

3. Navy Master-at-Arms (MA):

MAs in the Navy perform a variety of law enforcement and security duties. Pros could be a naval environment with opportunities to serve onboard ships or at naval bases around the globe. Cons might involve duties that may steer more towards protecting America’s sea-borne assets and internal security instead of traditional law enforcement.

4. Marine Corps Military Police (MP):

MPs perform similar functions like their Army counterparts, focused on both field and garrison law enforcement. Pros extend to a firmer grip on disciplined law enforcement and traditionally military responsibilities. Cons could involve the Marine Corps' intense physical requirements.

Each of these forces have rigorous training programs structured around their specific duties and environments, so also consider personal preference, physical capabilities and lifestyle eventualities when you make your choice. The best path for you may depend on exactly what kind of experience and challenges you seek in a law enforcement role.

Bear in mind that all branches of the military, not just military police, include opportunities for career progression and education. So consider your long-term objectives as well before you make your decision. Good luck!
