Which Military Branch is Best for Paramedics?

Hi guys, I'm a junior and I'm really interested in becoming a paramedic. However, I also want to serve my country in the military. So, I'm trying to figure out which branch of the military is best for paramedics. Any advice?

Joining any branch of the military provides valuable experiences, but from the perspective of your goal of becoming a paramedic, you might want to consider the U.S. Army or the U.S. Air Force. These branches have robust medical corps with opportunities to receive paramedic training and valuable field experience.

The U.S. Army has the 68W Healthcare Specialist, often called Army Combat Medics. These medics are responsible for providing emergency medical treatment at the point of wounding in the combat zone, limited primary care, and health protection and evacuation from a point of injury or illness.

In the Air Force, you could become a Pararescue specialist, or a "PJ." PJs are part of Air Force Special Operations, and their training is one of the toughest in the military. They are tasked with the recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments.

In both roles, you would receive training that goes beyond typical civilian paramedic courses, with a heavy emphasis on trauma medicine due to the nature of military operations. Plus, your training, leadership, and problem-solving experiences in these roles would serve as a strong foundation for a future career as a civilian paramedic.
