Choosing the right military branch with poor eyesight?

Hello guys, I'm contemplating joining the military after graduation, but I have poor eyesight. I wear glasses and can't do contacts. Will this significantly limit my options? What's the best military branch to join if you're somewhat vision impaired?

With regards to your question about the military and poor eyesight, you may be pleased to know that even if your eyesight isn't perfect, numerous opportunities throughout the military still exist for you. In fact, all branches of the military accept recruits who wear glasses and have corrected vision.

Each branch, be it the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or Space Force, has its own specific medical standards, including for eyesight. Oftentimes, they allow for corrected vision (meaning the use of eyeglasses or contacts) to meet the standard visual acuity. However, certain jobs or roles within these branches might have stricter requirements. For example, becoming a pilot would typically require better vision than other roles.

Your physical examination will classify you into one of the varying levels of eyesight categories. In the event that you fall into a lower category because of your eyesight, this might limit some occupational specialties but by no means does it disqualify you from service.

Remember, these things can change over time, so it's always best to reach out directly to the recruiters for the branches you're considering to discuss your specific situation. They will give you the most accurate and updated information.

The takeaway here is that poor vision doesn't categorically preclude you from military service, so don't let this deter you! Look into the different branches, consider what jobs you'd be interested in and research or inquire about their specific vision requirements. Given that each case is unique, armed with all the information, you can make the best decision for your future.
