Need Info on Special Forces in various US military branches

Hey guys, I'm currently a junior and considering my options after high school. One of my considerations is joining the Special Forces. I understand that each branch of the military has its own Special Forces unit. Can anyone elaborate on the differences between these units, and what I might expect in terms of training and eventual deployment? Thanks a lot!

Sure, it's a great idea to research and understand the varying roles and opportunities within each branch's Special Forces before making a decision. Here's a brief rundown:

1. U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets): They're responsible for nine primary missions, including unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, direct action, counter-insurgency, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, information operations, counterproliferation of weapon of mass destruction, and security force assistance. The Army's Special Forces Qualification Course is known as one of the toughest training programs and lasts approximately two years.

2. Navy SEALs: This group is known for conducting operations in maritime and riverine environments. Their responsibilities can range from direct combat to reconnaissance to counterterrorism. The Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training is known for its grueling "Hell Week" and lasts about a year, not including further specialized training.

3. Air Force Pararescue (PJs): These individuals are responsible for personnel recovery. Their job involves rescuing and providing medical treatment for downed military personnel. The Pararescue Indoctrination Course is intensely physical and lasts 10 weeks, though there are several other courses required before becoming a PJ.

4. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC): MARSOC operators are trained to execute complex, distributed operations in challenging environments. The training comprises a three-phase process lasting seven months.

5. Coast Guard Deployable Specialized Forces (DSF): Their direct action section is known as the Maritime Security Response Team, and their roles are more maritime-specific and can include maritime drug interdiction, port security, and other law enforcement duties.

6. Space Force’s Delta 9: These are the specialized forces in the newest branch, and their main mission is to "prepare, present, and fight" in the Space domain. More details should be coming about training and deployment, given its recent establishment.

Do keep in mind that on top of being physically demanding, these positions also require significant mental resilience and mastery of special operations tactics. It's also a good idea to talk to recruiters from different branches or individuals currently serving in these roles for insider perspectives. You might also look into each branch's requirements for these roles, which will include physical fitness standards, certain ASVAB scores, and possibly even certain citizenship or security clearance criteria.
