Fun fact about Edgar Allan Poe and the Military

Hi, it's something I've been trying to find but I'm not sure about. Does anyone know which branch of the military Edgar Allan Poe enlisted in? It’s for a project I'm doing. Thank you!

Edgar Allan Poe indeed served in the military. He enlisted in the United States Army using the pseudonym "Edgar A. Perry" in 1827. He achieved the rank of Sergeant Major for Artillery, the highest enlisted rank at the time. It's interesting to note that this career move occurred after Poe had dropped out of the University of Virginia due to financial difficulties. He served in the Army for about two years before getting discharged.

Later in his life, Poe also attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, but he didn't graduate from there. Instead, he purposefully got himself expelled for violating regulations. Hope this information helps with your project!
