Which military branch should I join to become a Nurse Practitioner?

Hey, I'm a junior seriously thinking about pursuing a career as a Nurse Practitioner. I'm also considering joining the military to get there because they seem to have good scholarship programs. I'd love to hear your thoughts on which branches might be the best for this career path. Thanks!

Each branch of the military has its own benefits when it comes to healthcare and becoming a Nurse Practitioner, so the best one really depends on what you're looking for.

The Army and Navy have substantial medical corps, and both offer the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which includes full tuition for a graduate-level health care degree at any accredited medical, dental, veterinary, psychology, or optometry program in the United States or Puerto Rico. This scholarship program could certainly help you on your path to becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

The Air Force also offers the HPSP, and it has a well-established Nurse Corps. Besides, many people find the Air Force lifestyle and its bases to be the most appealing among the military branches.

Lastly, the new Space Force is under the Department of the Air Force and shares medical assets with the Air Force, so you could also consider it as an option.

Remember, it's important to think through your long-term goals, lifestyle preferences, and the culture of each branch. Each one has its unique lifestyle, deployment rates, locations, and missions. Keep these factors in mind, and perhaps try to connect with Nurse Practitioners who have served in different branches to gain perspective. Good luck!
