Looking for Info on All Military Branches

Hey folks, I'm considering joining the military after high school but I'm not entirely sure about the differences between the branches. Anybody know what the 6 branches are and what each of them does? Would be great to get some clarity!

Sure, I'd be happy to provide an overview! There are six branches of the U.S. military: the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

The U.S Army is the oldest and largest military branch. It operates on land and undertakes major ground operations. If you join the Army, you could be involved in direct combat, but it also includes various support roles, such as engineers, lawyers, and doctors.

The Marine Corps is also a ground force like the Army, but it's a department of the Navy. Marines are often the first boots on the ground in combat situations and they work closely with the Navy for deployments. Marines can serve in a similar range of roles as Army personnel.

The Navy is primarily responsible for operations at sea, but they also play a key role in air operations. They ensure the freedom of navigation for the U.S. worldwide. You could be on a ship, submarine, or involved in aviation.

The Air Force, as the name suggests, operates in the air. They are responsible for defending the skies, providing air support, conducting strategic bombings, and managing the country's military satellites.

The Coast Guard is unique. In peacetime, they operate under the Department of Homeland Security and are in charge of maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and maintaining navigational aids. However, in a time of war, they can be transferred to the Department of the Navy.

The Space Force, the newest branch established in 2019, operates under the Air Force similar to how the Marine Corps operates under the Navy. They are responsible for organizing, training, and equipping personnel to protect U.S. and allied interests in space.

Each branch has a different culture and mission, so it's important to consider where you might fit best, based on your personal interests and career goals. Good luck with your decision!
