What's the Oldest Branch of the Military in America?

Hey guys, history buff here! I was just wondering if anyone knows which branch of the military is actually older than America itself? I've heard this claim somewhere, and it's intrigued me.

Indeed, you are correct! The oldest branch of the US military is the Army. The Continental Army, predecessor of today's United States Army, was founded by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, even before the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. The then revolutionary forces were faced with organizational issues and lacked a central command, so the Continental Congress stepped up to establish a unified army to resist British forces during the American Revolutionary War. George Washington, one of the founding fathers of the nation, was also appointed the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. The Continental Army went on to evolve into the United States Army that we know today after the nation secured its independence.
