Which branch of the military provides the best financial aid?

Hello, everyone! I'm considering the military partly to help offset college costs. Does any specific branch offer better financial aid programs than others?

Each branch of the military offers similar types of financial aid, primarily through the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which covers the full cost of in-state tuition and fees at public colleges for up to 36 months (equivalent to four academic years), or a portion of the cost at private or out-of-state schools. Additionally, this bill provides an annual books and supplies stipend, as well as a monthly housing allowance. There is also the Montgomery GI Bill, which requires a commitment of $100 per month for the first 12 months of service and offers a lesser amount of aid.

However, there are some variations in aid programs within different branches. For instance, the Army offers the Army College Fund, which supplements other aid for those in specific career paths. The Navy features the Navy College Fund and the Student Loan Repayment Program for eligible students. The Air Force has the Community College of the Air Force which provides college credits for training completed in the Air Force.

Likewise, the Coast Guard provides the Coast Guard Mutual Assistance Supplemental Education Grant, which is a grant program to assist with costs of books and fees, albeit a lesser known and more specialized program.

Finally, the newest branch, Space Force, offers tuition assistance programs similar to the other branches.

The amount of financial aid also depends on your length of service, whether you serve on active duty or in the reserve, among other factors. Therefore, it's essential that you research each branch's educational benefits, and consider other factors too, like the type of experience you want and what kind of career you're looking for post-military. The best choice for you could depend on these other aspects, not merely the financial aid package.
