What are Canada's military branches?

Hey guys, I've been looking into the Canadian military as an option after high school. I'm not from Canada, so I don't know a ton about how their military is structured. Can anyone help explain their different branches and briefly explain the general responsibilities or roles of each one?

Absolutely! Unlike the United States, Canada's military is structured in a more centralized manner through the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), which is the umbrella organization for the country's military services. The CAF is divided into three main branches:

1. The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN): This branch is responsible for maritime operations, which include naval warfare, maritime patrol, and submarine endeavors. The RCN ensures that Canada's coasts are well-protected and supports international naval operations as part of multilateral alliances.

2. The Canadian Army: As you might expect, the Canadian Army is in charge of all land-based military operations. This could involve a wide range of duties, from court-martial oversight to cybersecurity and humanitarian relief, along with traditional combat roles.

3. Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF): The RCAF handles all of Canada's airborne military operations, including surveillance, rescue missions, transportation of personnel and equipment, and combat aviation.

What's unique about the CAF is that it's considered a unified military, which means that while members serve in one of these three branches, they're ultimately serving under the joint command of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Remember, being an international student, you'll need to meet certain eligibility requirements to join the CAF, such as being a Canadian citizen. You might also need to reside in Canada for a certain period of time before being eligible to enlist.
