Details about the 101st Airborne Division

Hey, folks! Been doing some research on various military divisions and got curious about the 101st Airborne. Does anyone know which military branch this division falls under and what it specializes in?

The 101st Airborne Division is a light infantry division of the United States Army. Known as the "Screaming Eagles", the 101st Airborne is trained for air assault operations. In these operations, forces are transported by helicopters rapidly to the frontline, allowing the 101st to engage the enemy faster and with more surprise than ground forces.

The division has a rich history, notably for its role in World War II where it was used for the first time in combat. Later, in the Vietnam War, the 101st Airborne was reorganized as an airmobile force, allowing it to be deployed more rapidly to conflict zones.

Being part of the Army, the division is mainly composed of infantrymen with support from artillery, aviation, and engineering troops. They're able to conduct a variety of missions including air assault, airhead operations, forcible entry, raids, and more.

The division is currently based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Prospective soldiers interested in joining can find a wealth of structured training opportunities within the 101st, learning not just infantry tactics but also how to integrate air assets into their operations.
