Hey everyone! Current high school junior here. I've always loved the coast and thought I could mix business with pleasure by looking at colleges on the coast of North Carolina. Can anyone recommend some colleges that I should consider? Preference for places with strong departments for both sciences and humanities!
Sure, the coastal region of North Carolina is not only picturesque but is also home to a number of excellent schools.
1) University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW): UNCW, which is located on the southeastern coast in the beautiful city of Wilmington, offers a broad range of majors in both the sciences and humanities. It's well-regarded for its nursing and marine biology programs.
2) East Carolina University (ECU): While it's not located directly on the coast, it's close enough in Greenville, North Carolina that you'll still feel the coastal vibe. The university is renowned for its health sciences programs and has an Honors College that offers unique opportunities for students interested in humanities.
3) Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC Chapel Hill): If you're open to considering schools that are not directly on the beach but still in the general coastal region, Duke and UNC Chapel Hill are well-regarded for both their science and humanities programs. They're both located within the research triangle, which can provide excellent opportunities for internships and research.
Don't forget to visit these campuses, if you can, as the vibe and the culture of each school can vary quite a bit, even though they're in the same region. Good luck with your college search!
