How to calculate GPA for application to WVU?

Hi guys, I'm applying to West Virginia University (WVU) and am a little bit confused on how to calculate my GPA according to their system. Could someone explain it to me? Also, do they look at all 4 years of high school or just certain ones?

When calculating your GPA for application to West Virginia University (WVU), you'll need to use a 4.0 scale. This involves assigning a numeric value to each letter grade you've earned in high school courses, with A being worth 4.0, B worth 3.0, C worth 2.0, D worth 1.0, and F worth 0. If your school uses plus and minus grades, these usually carry an additional 0.3 or a decrease of 0.3 respectively (i.e., an A- would be 3.7, a B+ would be 3.3).

First, convert all of your grades into these points. Then, you add them all up and divide by the total number of courses you've taken. For example, if you had two A's and two B’s, your GPA would be (4.0+4.0+3.0+3.0) ÷ 4 = 3.5.

Remember that this is an unweighted GPA. If your school gives additional points for honors, AP, or IB courses and reports a weighted GPA, be aware that most colleges, including WVU, will look at both but the unweighted GPA gives them a standard measure to compare all students.

Regarding your other question, WVU like most universities, will typically look at all four years of high school. They want to see your full high school performance to evaluate your academic progression and consistency. This gives them a more comprehensive view of your academic abilities and work ethic.

The final thing to note is that alternative grading situations, like pass/fail grades or credit/no credit due to circumstances such as the recent pandemic, are understood by most universities. Generally, they are taken into account and not held against you in the application process.
