Easier Admission Colleges in New York

Hey, my fellow juniors. In the midst of all this college prep, I'm looking to add some less competitive colleges in New York to my application list. Does anyone have any recommendations that aren't necessarily super competitive, but still offer some solid programs? Share your ideas, please!

Sure, sounds like a good strategy to balance out your college list with a mix of reach, match, and safety schools. I'd suggest you consider the following New York colleges that aren't super competitive but are still noteworthy for their programs:

1. Hofstra University: Located in Hempstead, NY, Hofstra has numerous robust programs, including an acclaimed school of communication and an innovative honors college. The student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1, and they offer a wide variety of extracurriculars.

2. Baruch College (CUNY): Known for its strong business programs and being located in the heart of New York City. It offers the advantages of a larger university, like a wide selection of majors and ample research opportunities, but also has a more accessible admissions process compared to the highly selective universities.

3. SUNY New Paltz: This college is particularly well-regarded for its programs in education, business, and the fine arts. It's not just academically well-rounded, it's also located in one of the most scenic parts of the Hudson Valley. You get proximity to New York City without the city's intense hustle and bustle.

4. SUNY Oswego: While it's further out of the city, Oswego is known for its robust programs, particularly in education, business, and broadcast journalism. They also have the advantage of a beautiful campus setting on Lake Ontario.

5. Pace University: With campuses in New York City, Pleasantville, and White Plains, Pace is known for its business and performing arts programs. Internship opportunities abound in Manhattan, and they also have a well-regarded nursing program.

These schools all have acceptance ranging from 50% to upward of 84% and they each offer distinct programs and opportunities. They could serve as solid additions to your college application list given your preference for less competitive colleges in New York. Your specific interests or intended major could bring forth other suggestions. Make sure to verify the admissions stats from their respective admissions websites to ensure they're a good "match" or "safety" based on your profile. Good luck with your college applications!
